windmill power production
Introduction to windmill power production:
The Wind mills power production work on the principle of converting mechanical energy into electrical energy. Wind is pure fuel. They cause no air or water pollution. Higher costs of fossil fuel has made to turn the attention towards renewable source of energy like wind and solar. Wind mills power production is from the kinetic power of the wind. Wind turbines are used to produce large amount of electricity in wind farms. Wind is a precious source of renewable energy. This energy source is utilized to produce electricity. Individual wind turbines are installed for the domestic purpose, while for the commercial purposes a number of wind turbines are installed.. At wind mills power production plant, the power generated from the individual wind turbines is collected and is connected to the main grid.

Design and working of the wind mill power production plant:
The wind mill power production plant consists of the following
a) Fan blades
b) Shaft
c) Gear box
d) Generator
Wind mill power production plant usually consist of three blade fans pointed in the direction of the wind. Aerodynamics plays an important role in the designing of the blades. The shape must be chosen with great care, to give maximum power and less noise. This three blades rotor is very important part of the wind mill It’s also the most visible part. It is through the rotor that the wind energy is transformed into mechanical energy that turns the main shaft of the wind turbine. The blades are locked into the hub.
Shaft. The hub is mounted on the shaft. The shaft is connected to the hub by means of roller bearings. These roller bearings are lubricated by greasing to withstand the stress and tear due to continuous rotation. When the wind blows the blades rotate which in turn rotates the shaft. Some turbines have a breaking system in place to control the speed or rotation.
Gear Box: The gear box is placed in-between the shaft and the generator. The speed of the rotation of the shaft is not sufficient to produce electricity, The gear box increases the output rotational speed of the shaft to the generator input. The output speed is around 1000 to 1500 rpm.
Generator. The generator in the wind turbine transforms the mechanical energy into electric energy. The high speed output shaft from the gear box rotates inside the generator.

windmill power production:
A 10 KW wind turbine with an annual average wind speed of 12 miles per hour can produce 10,000 KW hours of energy per year. This is sufficient to power one house for one year. An average household requires 10,000 kW hours per year. If the annual average wind speed is 12 MPH, a 10 kW wind turbine can produce enough electricity to power one house for one year. In a wind farm there are hundreds of wind turbines over a large area. The Horse Hollow Wind Energy Center in Texas has 400 wind turbines that can generate electricity enough to power 200,000 homes for a year.
